I loved the kids Benny and Sophie drabble that you wrote ( I know I told you, but I can't not say it again 😅).

I was wondering if you could write a drabble about their first meet! And I know your plate is already full with all the wonderful fics on AO3 and the training, but maybe, once you're free you could turn this into a fic as well?

A little more of Benedict and Sophie's first meeting!

I LOVE WRITING LITTLE BENNI AND SOPHIE THEY'RE SO FRICKING CUTE!!!!

Sophie beamed as her father said she could go play with the other children. Save for Kate and her little baby sister, she didn’t have any friends, she had no one else to play with yet here there was an abundance of children for her to play with. Giving her father, Lord and Lady Bridgerton a cute curtsey, she lifted her skirts and began to run over to the group of children but as she got closer she saw there was one boy not playing, he was sitting nearby under a tree and something made her stop.

She paused in her run, there was something that had made her stop. It was like pins and needles, it was like the magic her papa told her about in the stories he read her before bed, of princess’ and handsome princes and the way the boys hair was flopping over his face, she couldn’t help but wonder if he was Prince Charming

He was definitely older than she was, but he wasn’t too old as he wasn’t wearing long trousers. His brow was furrowed in concentration and he seemingly didn’t look very happy and Sophie decided she didn’t like the sad look on his face and she skipped over to him, the other children completely forgotten about.

She stood in front of him, her hands swinging, a bright smile on her face as she took in the boy as he looked up and just started blinking as he just stared at her “who are you?” he asked, his voice a little shocked at the blonde girl in front of him who had a bright wide smile, a few teeth missing and the greenest eyes he had ever seen in his life.

“I’m Sophie Beckett!” she said, curtseying, keeping her eyes on the boy who just chuckled at her

“You don’t have to do that… I'm no one important” the boy said blushing a little as he waved a hand.

“Everyone is important! Sir told me everyone is important!” she said brightly.

“Sir?”

“My… er…” she turned around and pointed at a man “him? He’s like my papa but he said he’s not my papa… he looks after me” she said, carefully thinking because she couldn’t remember the word. Benedict noticed that she wrinkled her nose in concentration and he couldn’t help staring at her.

She was like a magical garden fairy and she just seemed so happy, almost shaking with happiness as she smiled him, not even paying attention to the screams of his siblings behind him

“Guardian?” he suggested

“Yes! That!” she said, giving him an even brighter smile and honestly the sheer force of it had him smiling back it felt a little lopsided and it felt like one of the first genuine ones he had since the Pall Mall game with his cousins and brother a few weeks ago. There was something about this girl that seemed to radiate happiness and made him feel warm and fuzzy inside. Sophie beamed at him, tilting her head at him as she asked “what’s your name?”

“Benedict… Ben” he said realising he hadn’t actually said his name.

“Nice to meet you Ben!” she said brightly “why are you not playing with the rest?” she asked

Benedict shrugged “Anthony picked a stupid game” he huffed, he knew the rest of his family had wanted to play and as he didn’t he had taken himself off, “so i’m just… sketching” he said as he lifted his book and charcoal.

“Can I sit with you?” she asked, tilting her head.

“Do you not want to go play? Everyone usually wants to go play with them” he said bemused. Why would someone not want to play with his siblings and sit with him… even Eloise who like reading had called him boring because he didn’t want to join in.

Sophie shook her head “No. I want to sit with you”

“I’m boring though,” he said, blinking in shock as he repeated his sister’s words back to her.

“I don’t think you are boring” she said unabashed “you’re the most interesting person i’ve met today”

“Okay then, you can sit with me” he said, moving over on his blanket.

Sophie took a seat next to him and she leaned over and looked at the picture he was drawing and she gasped “Oh that’s really good! Is that your brothers and sisters playing?” she asked

Benedict blinked at the picture and then at the girl and nodded “you really think so?”

“I do!” she nodded enthusiastically.

“I don’t believe you,” he said, closing the book feeling self-conscious. The only person who had ever really listened to his art had been his grandmama and she was gone now and he was struggling with it. First Anthony had gone off to Eton and left him alone with their younger siblings, then his grandmama was gone… Benedict had never felt lonelier in his life.

“I don’t lie, Sir and my auntie told me never to lie…” she said with a nod and a bright smile, placing her little hands on top of his and Benedict felt something akin to electricity jolt through him.

“Oh” he said a little stupidly and he found he actually believed her, there was something about this young girl that made him want to believe every word that came out of her mouth,

“Do you have more?” she said as he nodded his head.

“Can I see?” she asked brightly

“Really? You want to see?” he asked

Sophie nodded and moved closer to him, resting her head on his shoulders and Benedict loved the way her head felt on him, it felt comforting. “I really really do!”

Benedict smiled and opened his book “very well then” and for the first time in his life he shared his pictures.

“Who is this?” Sophie asked as they worked their way through his book and they came across a picture of an eldery, regal looking woman.

“Oh… erm… my grandmama” he said sadly.

“Oh she was so pretty” Sophie said, tilting her head “did she really look like this?” she asked.

Benedict nodded “close…”

“You look like her…” Sophie said.

“Do you think so?” he said with a smile.

Sophie looked up at him and using her little hand ran it over his cheek “i know it’s black and white but the eyes, you have the same sparkle, and i think maybe you had the same colour eyes…” Sophie said curiously.

Benedict’s mouth fell open “my papa says we did…”

“Was she an artist too?” Sophie asked

“I’m not an artist,” Benedict blushed.

“You will be one day!” Sophie said solemnly. “I think you will be a great one with lots of pictures in the national galleries and everyone in London with marvel over your creations!” she grinned.

Benedict shook his head “nooooo”

Sophie nodded “You will! Sir says we get better with practice! If you practise and as you are a boy you get to go to school and you can learn and you can be the very best!” Sophie said

“Do you really think so?” Benedict asked, she was the first person who seemed to take it seriously, Anthony called his drawing doodles and his other siblings “silly sketches” but Sophie, like his grandmother… seemed to encourage him and he loved that.

“I do! Benedict Bridgerton! Finest artist in the making!” Sophie grinned at him.

Benedict laughed and it was the first time he could see it. “How long are you stopping with us for?” Benedict asked curiously.

“Sir says All summer!” Sophie said excitedly.

“Really? Maybe you could help me with some pictures? And pick some things for me to draw?” he asked her, he wanted to impress her, he liked her praise and her encouragement.

“I would love to! Maybe I could read to you while you draw!” she said “my only friend Kate says I read the best stories!” she grinned.

“You only have one friend?” he asked her

Sophie shrugged “i don’t know many people. Sir hasn’t really took me to meet people and Auntie Sarah takes me to the Sharma’s as she’s friends with Lady Mary and her daughter is my age”

“I’ll be your friend” Benedict said with a bright smile.

Sophie beamed at him and hugged him tightly “I’d like that! Thank you!!” she grinned.

They were called back to the house after Benedict told her more about his grandmother as she asked curiously and Benedict offered his arm to her, like he watched his father do for his mother and led her to the house. Ignoring the sniggers from his siblings and feeling pride and happiness when she chose to sit next to him and dinner and they spent the evening ignoring the rest of his family. Talking and giggling, Violet’s eyes watching them, tears in them, as she started to see signs of her shy son coming back to them, coming back to the happy boy she knew he was.

By the time the children went to bed that night and she crawled into bed with her husband she said “Benedict’s going to marry Sophie”

“He’s 12 Violet dear… let us not marry him off yet…” Edmund chuckled

“I’m not but I know true love when I see it,” she said, “and they might be young, but surely you saw them…”

“They’re children…” Edmund said

“Mark my words Edmund… you’ll see” Violet said, kissing her husband’s cheek.

And 12 years later, when they announced their engagement, Violet couldn’t help but turn to her husband with a smug “i told you to mark my words”

So I want to write my take on what happened during Jet-Star and Kobra Kid/traffic report but before that I have to finally place it somewhere onto the timeline and yet again am I realising how fucked up it is. Like there's almost no way for both sing and traffic report happening without some Phoenix witch intervention unless you take that the outtake version is what truly went down during sing and the fab four actually survived it and Kobra and Jet then died as explained by traffic report and Party and Ghoul died on some other occasion which isn't mentioned which all seems fine because it would pretty much play into the beginning of the comics with the Girl being alone and Cherri actual having the four's clothes and all that jazz but then you realize it actually wouldn't make sense for Korse to still be alive and an important exterminator because if Kobra and Jet got killed by an exterminator then BL/Ind would definitely find out about Korse's betrayal thanks to that and wouldn't just let it pass that easily. Fuck!

#plus there are some plot holes in the outtake version too like BL/Ind not wanting to see the bodies and shit #amd yeah I know it's just some of the unused scenes and stuff from filming but it's composed in an interesting way #that kust opens for some interesting interpretations yk #danger days #killjoys #ttlotfk #ttlofk #my posts

This has been in my drafts for a while and sorry it took so long to post

RED QUEEN OTP SWAP PART 3!!

We begin with Cal being primmed and propered up for a ceremony after Kingstrial, as he is now made to marry Gisa.

Mostly, he cleans himself and dresses himself, but the servants make sure THEY wash his hair and remove all the grime before drying him off and painting him so he's outtake and dress him to the nines in Calore colors.

When they try to take some cheap metal bracelets Iris, Tiora, amd Maven chipped in to get him, he panics and recovers enough to order them to leave the bracets.

Good because, as Mare puts it, they suit him.

Cal panicks slightly, as he's alone with the crown princess, who he's also a little annoyed at because she can't do anything about his situation. Mare admits that she wants Cal to go home too, but she can't mainly because everyone knows about him now and most of them want him dead.

Speaking of dead, if anyone finds out about his being a Red and not a Silver, that's how he'll end up in a heartbeat, him and his family and friends. Can he write to them? No, too risked.

Mare apologizes and wishes him luck for the night because he'll need it.

She leaves, Cal suits up in red and black, and is escorted to the lift that leads him to Samson, who gives him the run down that he was born in the war and taken in by a Red man who'd lost his son and wife. He was raised without knowing who he is. The rest is history.

Cal asks what Samson wants with him, but Samson only tells him to not screw up or die, giving him an extra migraine for motivation.

Samson leaves Cal to stand with the royal family and Daniel stands before them all to give a grand speech on how the Kingstrial brought forth a miracle, one in the form of the long lost child of the beloved Tiberias Calore VI: one Tiberias Calore VII, who everyone watches as he descends the stairs and sits beside the Samos family.

Ptolemus is not amused, btw, and it gets worse when Cal and Gisa exchange vows and swear themselves to each other. Cal is upset more than ever because now there ia no going home.

Unsurprising to ANYONE, Ptolemus is chosen as Mare's husband and they exchange their vows, though Ptolemus doesn't just threaten to cut Cal apart, no. He grabs his wrist and squeezes hard enough to cut off circulation, making a ring of metal that is razor sharp and almost slices of Cal's hand.

He lets go instead and Cal is all too relieved; healers be damned, he would not like to lose a hand, please and thank you.

Thankfully, Ptolemus decides to not cut his hand, or cut him, and the rest of the evening goes as it usually does, with dinner, though Cal actually makes himself eat and is laughed at by Ptolemus because he keeps using the cutlery wrong by switching his hands, he's slouching, and is eating loke a starved dog.

He also loses his mind for a moment after some alcohol that Gisa takes away and replaces with water, despite the objections from Cal.

She also apologizes for what's happened and admits that now she knows how Mare feels because she didn't have a choice in who she would marry.

Cal is not happy at the pity and tells her that she wouldn't know hardship even if it beat her and left her to rot. Gisa admits that, no, she wouldn't, but that doesn't mean Silvers have it totally easy, as proven by the Kingstrial.

The events continue as usual, but the king and queen actually share a room this time, and the princesses escort the boys the bed, though Cal is steadily going insane from the anxiety and Mare is of little comfort because she tells him to be a little careful because there are cameras everywhere excpt that bathroom, though it is wire tapped.

Gee, great. Thanks, Mare.

Cal does get a schedule, and does get picked on because he was raised in the dirt, and he gets etiquette lessons, and sees Mare and Gisa whoop ass in training. He is scolded for his untimely-ness and taught how to stand, walk, sleep, greet people, properly use cutlery, and what the high houses and their names are before luncheon.

A a few more Kingstrial contestants are there, and they're not happy to see him, i.e. Olover Laris and Stralian Haven, who are a little pissed to have not been as lucky as he was.

Also here is the Panther Ara Iral, who's visiting with her grandson Reynald, who sees Cal has bronze eyes as opposed the the previous Calore Lord's and Lady's silver-gray.

Thankfully, Daniel gets their attention and Ruth escorts Ara away.

Afterwards, Gisa assures him that there will be no trouble, and he's off to meet another mentor: Willis Farely(the colonel, for those wondering), who Cal is surprised to see, and for good reason because he's a bit of a surprise among Reds and Silvers due to being the child of a Red and a Silver.

He also knows Cal is a Red with powers and only wants to help him understand himself, thank goodness because Cal would like answers, please and thank you.

RTX-systemen continutest kick-off: MSI Trident X en Acer Orion 5000

Inleiding

Nu Nvidia's RTX-videokaarten door ons getest zijn, gaan we kijken wat fabrikanten daar zoal omheen bouwen. Het eerste deel in deze serie bevat de MSI Trident X en de Acer Predator Orion 5000. Twee zeer verschillende benaderingen van een gamingsysteem, voor mensen die niet zelf iets willen bouwen. We onderwierpen beide aan een test.

Systeemtests zijn van oudsher een klein hoofdpijndossier bij Hardware.Info. Ze arriveren vaak met defecten of softwareproblemen, en het is een schier onmogelijke uitdaging om de paar fabrikanten die nog complete systemen bouwen tegelijkertijd een vergelijkbaar product op te laten sturen. Daarnaast zijn het ook nog eens behoorlijk tijdrovende tests. Om die reden heb je dit soort reviews de laatste tijd niet op deze pagina's voorbij zien komen, maar de introductie van de RTX-serie videokaarten van Nvidia was voor ons gelegenheid om het eens op een andere manier te proberen.

De bedoeling is dat we dit artikel de komende maanden updaten met nieuwe systemen, als en wanneer ze bij ons zijn binnengekomen en de testprocedure hebben doorlopen. Zo krijg je in de loop der tijd een steeds beter beeld van wat er zoal te koop is voor wie niet zelf een systeem in elkaar wil zetten.

Laten we eerlijk zijn, de meeste bezoekers van Hardware.Info zullen juist wél zelf elk onderdeel willen uitkiezen om zo precies aansluitend bij budget en gebruiksdoel een optimale configuratie samen te stellen. Aan de andere kant zullen er ook genoeg lezers zijn voor wie het budget wat minder telt, maar tijd des te waardevoller is. Die willen aansluiten en gamen. Wat dat betreft worden ze op hun wenken bediend tegenwoordig, want de grote merken (Acer, Dell/Alienware, HP, Lenovo) die van oudsher meer op zakelijke en gewone consumentensystemen waren gericht, hebben ook de gamingmarkt ontdekt. En dat motiveert de bekende spelers in deze markt (Asus en MSI bijvoorbeeld) om harder dan ooit tevoren de kapitaalkrachtige gamer te verleiden een kant-en-klaar systeem te bestellen.

We worden dan ook regelmatig benaderd met verzoeken naar zo'n machine te kijken, en met dit artikel hopen we een vorm te hebben die voor ons werkbaar en voor jullie als lezers informatief is. We bespreken elk systeem op een eigen pagina, gevolgd door een aantal pagina's met testresultaten. Zo ontstaat er een uitdijend digitaal boekwerk over wat er zoal op de markt is. Vooralsnog gericht op systemen met een Nvidia videokaart aan boord - toch de dominante speler op dit moment - maar uiteraard is het een kleine moeite om de titel aan te passen, mocht ons een systeem op basis van AMD graphics bereiken. Die zijn ons tot dusver niet aangeboden, maar wat niet is, kan nog komen. Lees dus niet te veel in die insteek, het is simpelweg een kapstok nu we klein beginnen.

De eerste twee systemen die we bespreken zijn de MSI Trident X en de Acer Predator Orion 5000. De eerste bereikte ons al de nodige tijd geleden en bespraken we in Hardware.Info TV, maar het duurde lang voordat het daadwerkelijk te koop was. De komst van een tweede systeem is voor ons aanleiding om de vergelijking te maken, omdat dit tweede systeem een heel andere insteek heeft: de Orion 5000 is een klassieke, grote atx-kast, terwijl de Trident X juist heel bescheiden van omvang is.

De prijs (circa 2500 euro) en specificaties zijn echter vergelijkbaar. Daarnaast profileert MSI zich sinds jaar en dag als gaming specialist, terwijl het veel grotere Acer relatief recent echt serieus aan de slag is gegaan om met de Predator-lijn om te laten zien dat het het bedrijf menens is in de slag om de harten van de gameliefhebbers. David versus Goliath dus - maar of de uitslag dan bij voorbaat al vaststaat? Allesbehalve!

We bespreken de systemen alfabetisch, om het terugvinden eenvoudig te houden wanneer er meer systemen worden toegevoegd.

Acer Predator Orion 5000

Acer timmert hard aan de weg met zijn Predator gaming-lijn. Bij laptops hebben we al de nodige niet onverdienstelijke modellen voorbij zien komen en ook met randapparatuur en natuurlijk gamingmonitoren is het merk inmiddels een speler om rekening mee te houden. Van de systemen hebben we een wisselender indruk (wie herinnert zich niet de knaloranje Predator van de nodige jaren geleden?), dus hoog tijd voor een verse blik. Het exemplaar dat we hier bespreken is een Orion 5000, uit de 'middelste' lijn van het merk. Deze is leverbaar met RTX 2070, 2080 en 2080 Ti, van die drie heeft deze ook de middelste optie aan boord (met een prijs van zo'n 2500 euro). Voor we nader naar de componenten kijken, eerst een blik op de buitenkant.

Op het eerste gezicht ziet de Orion 5000 er echt als een gaming machine uit: een hoekig, perspex venster aan de zijkant, blauwe verlichting aan de voorzijde (led-strips en fans) en een vervaarlijk uiterlijk dat we, wanneer we het over behuizingen hebben meestal als 'Aziatisch' zouden omschrijven: in Europa lijkt de voorkeur toch veelal uit te gaan naar een wat strakker ontwerp. Over smaak valt niet te twisten, maar we vallen niet direct voor dit design.

De kast is wel doordacht. Zo zitten er aan weerszijden uitklapbare haakjes, waaraan je een headset kunt hangen. Achter die haakjes zit aan weerszijden een schroef; draai je die los, dan kan je het rooster uit het voorpaneel verwijderen om het stoffilter uit te nemen en te reinigen. Achter een klep in het voorpaneel gaat een heuse optische drive schuil - en in deze prijsklasse vinden we het best aardig dat we die erbij krijgen, je zal maar nog een collectie games op disc hebben. Aan de voor- en bovenzijde zit een soort 'bult' - noem het een stierenkop, dat klinkt stoerder - maar die heeft ook een praktische insteek, want er zit een handgreep in verwerkt. Mocht je met het systeem op reis willen, dan is dat wel handig. Het is echter te zwaar (zo'n 17 kilo) om heel ver mee te gaan lopen. Opmerkelijk is dat de Orion 5000 onder een lichte hoek staat - daarmee staan ook alle onderdelen uit het lood. Dat is voor de meeste componenten niet zo bezwaarlijk, maar harde schijven functioneren doorgaans het beste horizontaal óf verticaal, maar niet er tussenin. De hoek is echter bescheiden en we gaan ervan uit dat Acer hierover heeft nagedacht.

Een minpunt is dat de verschillende uitklappende onderdelen fragiel en gammel aanvoelen - dat geldt zowel voor de hoofdtelefoondragers als de afdekking van het optische station. Wat dan weer bijzonder en vermeldenswaard is, is dat de Orion 5000 ondanks het venster voldoet aan de eisen op het gebied van elektromagnetische afscherming. Doorgaans zijn vensters op kant-en-klare systemen eerder uitzondering dan regel, omdat deze problematisch zijn met de geldende regelgeving (waar systeembouwers zich in tegenstelling tot thuisbouwers wel aan moeten houden). De binnenkant is wel ongespoten blank staal - vanwege diezelfde regelgeving.

Aansluitingen

Aan de bovenzijde treffen we ook enige aansluitingen, drie usb 3.0 poorten (superspeed 5) van het bekende platte type-a, en eentje in type-c uitvoering. Er tussenin zitten twee analoge aansluitingen voor een headset.

Achterop bevinden zich meer aansluitmogelijkheden, op zowel het io-paneel als op uiteraard de videokaart. Dat brengt het totaal van 2.0 poorten op vier, maar van de 5 Gbit-versies zijn er maar liefst acht. Minpuntje: usb 3.1 gen2, oftewel superspeed 10, is geheel afwezig. Ander minpuntje: aan het uiterlijk van de poorten is niet te zien hoe snel ze zijn.

Verder zijn achterop nog zes analoge audio-aansluitingen te ontwaren en een ethernetpoort. Opvallend is de Clear Cmos-knop, bepaald geen standaardvoorziening. Niet zichtbaar maar wel aanwezig is een draadloze netwerkkaart, afkomstig van Intel. Gelukkig is het een fatsoenlijke, met een dubbele stream tot 866 Mbit/s.

De RTX 2080 biedt een usb type-c aansluiting en een hdmi-uitgang, plus drie displayport-uitgangen: wat je mag verwachten van deze klasse.

Intern

Dat brengt ons op de gebruikte onderdelen. In het zoals gezegd ongespoten binnenwerk treffen we naast de RTX 2080 (voorzien van een twee-slots koeler die ogenschijnlijk vergelijkbaar is met een Founders Edition uitvoering) een behoorlijk potente processor. De Intel Core i7-8700 heeft zes rekenkernen en HyperThreading, en draait standaard op 3,2 GHz met een turbo naar 4,6 GHz. Acer monteert 16 GB aan DDR4-2667 geheugen (en er zijn nog twee slots vrij voor meer modules) en maakt, enigszins opmerkelijk, nog gebruik van een Z370 chipset.

Dat is enerzijds opmerkelijk omdat de toegevoegde waarde voor een niet-K-processor van een Z-serie chipset beperkt is en de H370 qua featureset (met name usb 3.1 gen2) moderner is, anderzijds omdat we in deze prijsklasse toch topmodellen verwachten en dus Z390.

Kijken we voorbij dit puntje, dan zien we wel een ALC1220 audiochip (met SoundBlaster software) en een redelijke hoeveelheid opslagruimte - 256 GB in de vorm van een Intel 525, bepaald niet de modernste ssd van het moment en nog een met een sata-interface, en een terabyte aan harde schijfopslag afkomstig van Seagate. Gelukkig wel een 7200rpm exemplaar en dus relatief vlot. Het optische station hadden we genoemd, de Orion 5000 kan ook dvd'tjes branden als je dat wilt.

We noemden de draadloze Intel netwerkkaart al; de bedrade interface is een Killer E2400 gigabit controller. Met andere woorden, de netwerkvoorzieningen zijn dik in orde.

De processor wordt gekoeld door een forse luchtkoeler met de nodige heatpipes en een 8 cm fan. Daarnaast is er een outtake fan aan de achterzijde en twee intake fans aan de voorkant, voorzien van genoemde verlichting. Het systeem wordt van prik voorzien door een stevige 730W voeding, afkomstig van FSP. Die gaat schuil onder een shroud.

Prettig is dat je kan uitbreiden: er is nog een PCI-e x16 slot beschikbaar voor een extra videokaart, de voeding heeft daarvoor ook voldoende vermogen.

Bijzonderheden

Acer levert een stukje software mee met de naam PredatorSense, waarmee je zaken als het gedrag van de koeling kunt configureren. Standaard staat dit in de automatische modus, waarmee de fans hoorbaar zijn maar niet storend. Wordt het systeem belast, dan gaan ze harder draaien en zijn ze zeer hoorbaar. Er is ook een gaming-modus, waarin ze op vol vermogen draaien en horen en zien je vergaat - een headset is dan een vereiste. Helaas gaan de ventilatoren ook in automatische modus regelmatig in overdrive, als een proces wat meer processorkracht vraagt. Ook als dat een achtergrondproces is voor bijvoorbeeld OneDrive of Windows Update. Daardoor is het in de praktijk behoorlijk luidruchtig.

Afgezien van het instellen van de ventilatoren valt er weinig te doen met de PredatorSense software; zo is het niet mogelijk de verlichting van de fans of de led-strips te regelen. We hebben nog gekeken of er een update was, maar de versie die je kan downloaden is ouder dan wat op de machine zelf staat.

Qua software installeert Acer het nodige voor. Zo treffen we een 'Acer' versie aan van Cyberlink PhotoDirector en VideoDirector, en een toepassing waarmee nog een aantal gratis en betaalde applicaties kunnen worden geïnstalleerd: 'tips' van Acer. Wat ons betreft zien we liever geen voorgeïnstalleerde software, zeker gezien de relatief kleine ssd.

Acer Predator Orion 5000 in het kort

De Acer Predator Orion heeft het uiterlijk van een gaming systeem en op papier ook de juiste onderdelen, maar in de praktijk valt deze editie toch wat tegen. De gekozen componenten zijn niet alle even logisch, en de totaalprijs daarvoor is aan de hoge kant. Storender vinden we de luidruchtige werking, ook bij een simpel achtergrondproces op de desktop, en de wat fragiele bewegende delen. Positief is dat er voldoende mogelijkheid is om te upgraden, en voor wie dat belangrijk vindt, dat de EMI shielding in orde is.

Prestaties vallen wat tegen, geluidsproductie is te vaak storend hoog

MSI Trident X

De MSI Trident X is de nieuwste versie van de high-end compacte lijn van het merk. Hoewel hij fors groter is dan de vorige Trident X, is het nog altijd een bescheiden verschijning. Het is een smalle tower, maar op basis van mini-itx in plaats van atx. In tegenstelling tot bij de voorloper maakt MSI gebruik van standaard componenten, wat upgraden vereenvoudigt: voeding, moederbord en videokaart voldoen alle aan standaard form factors. De hoogte is net geen 40 cm, het systeem is iets meer dan 36 cm diep en minder dan 14 cm breed. Hoewel een zekere 'game'-uitstraling, met hoeken en schuine lijnen, niet te ontkennen valt, is de Trident X een vrij discrete verschijning. Er zijn rgb-ledstrips verwerkt in de voorkant en de cpu-koeler is ook voorzien van rgb-verlichting, maar die kan je uitzetten mocht je daar geen behoefte aan hebben.

MSI levert de Trident X in diverse uitvoeringen, met processors tot de Core i7-9900K en de videokaarten tot de Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti. De variant die wij testten was voorzien van een i7-9700K en een RTX 2080. (Enige tijd geleden publiceerden we een verslag van een bezoek aan de fabriek waar deze systemen worden geassembleerd.)

Aan beide zijden heeft MSI een flink rooster in het paneel aangebracht, nodig om de high-end onderdelen van frisse lucht te voorzien. Aan de linkerzijde zit ook een stuk acryl, waardoor de videokaart zichtbaar is. Het bedrijf levert overigens in de doos ook een gehard glazen zijpaneel mee voor de rechterkant. Dat kan je als een deurtje openen na het monteren. Ook hierin zit een rooster ter hoogte van de processor.

De constructie voelt stevig aan, MSI heeft weinig plastic gebruikt afgezien van voor het voorpaneel en de voet. Er zijn ook geen voorzieningen speciaal voor gamers, zoals een headset-haakje of iets dergelijks. Heel luxe komt het systeem niet over, al helpt het glazen paneel wel om wat meer tot uitdrukking te brengen dat je hier ruim 2500 euro aan pc hebt staan. Met een inhoud van ruim 10 liter en een gewicht van net geen 10 kilo is de Trident X met wat goede wil nog transporteerbaar, mocht je regelmatig op verschillende plaatsen gamen of lan-party's frequenteren.

Aansluitingen

Een aantal aansluitingen tref je aan de voorkant: twee keer usb 3.1 gen1 (superspeed 5) in type-a en type-c, plus een usb 2.0 type-a poort. Helaas zijn beide type-a poorten van dezelfde kleur voorzien, waardoor je niet snel ziet welke de snelle en welke de langzame is: dat is niet handig. Daarnaast zitten hier twee audio-aansluitingen.

Het merendeel zit achterop, waar we nog eens twee keer usb 3.1 gen2 (superspeed 10) in type-a en type-c aantreffen, alsmede twee keer usb 2.0, twee keer usb 3.1 gen1, displayport, hdmi en ethernet, plus vijf analoge en een digitale audio-uitgang. Opmerkelijk: ook een ps/2-poort is aanwezig, voor wie echt old school apparatuur wil aansluiten. Op de videokaart zitten dan nog drie keer displayport 1.4, een keer hdmi 2.0 en een usb-c-aansluiting.

Intern

MSI heeft het binnenwerk in compartimenten ingedeeld, waardoor de videokaart geheel gescheiden is van de rest van het systeem. Ook de processor heeft een eigen 'mini airflow' om optimaal gekoeld te blijven, en dat geldt ook voor de voeding. Hierdoor is het mogelijk het systeem te koelen met een enkele 12 cm fan, die boven de processor is gemonteerd; de videokaart heeft uiteraard eigen ventilatoren.

Naast de Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 met 8 GB eigen geheugen (een standaard MSI Ventus, overigens) treffen we in onze testversie een Intel Core i7-9700K processor. Dat is een 8-core exemplaar, maar zonder HyperThreading. Voor games is het een uitstekende keuze, draaiend op 3,6 GHz met een turbo naar maximaal 4,9 GHz. MSI leverde in ons sample 32 GB DDR4-2667 geheugen mee, maar de varianten die je in Nederland kunt kopen hebben 16 GB - wat nog altijd voldoende is. Dit alles is gemonteerd op een Z370 moederbord - wat ons betreft zou dat gewoon Z390 moeten zijn; MSI heeft ons laten weten voornemens te zijn die overstap ook te gaan maken, maar dat de timing van ontwerp en het uitkomen van deze chipset het verhinderde bij deze versie.

MSI heeft het systeem zo ingericht dat alle onderdelen die je zelf zou willen upgraden of vervangen snel toegankelijk zijn. Zowel geheugenmodules, 2,5-inch stations als de nvme-ssd achter het moederbord zijn eenvoudig toegankelijk. De videokaart zit in een eigen compartiment en is ook makkelijk te vervangen, al moet je iets meer schroefjes losdraaien dan in een standaard atx-systeem.

De opslag is ruimschoots afdoende uitgevoerd, met een 512 GB ssd en een 2 TB grote harde schijf - helaas wel een 5400 rpm exemplaar, maar omdat het een 2,5-inch drive betreft kon dat ook niet echt sneller. De pci-e x4 nvme ssd is wel een Samsung PM981, de oem-versie van de 970 Evo en daarmee een uitstekende keuze.

Voor geluidsproductie is er een Realtek ALC1220 codec aanwezig, de beste geïntegreerde oplossing, dus een prima keuze. Netwerkvoorzieningen zijn in handen van Intel (bedraad gigabit) en Killer (draadloos). Helaas is de draadloze chip een schamel single stream 433 Mbit/s kaartje, een onbegrijpelijk staaltje beknibbelen gezien de totale prijs van dit systeem.

Ook de voeding is in deze uitvoering wat ondermaats. In het topmodel levert MSI een redelijk gespecificeerde 600W 80Plus Gold voeding, maar zelfs met een 9700K en een RTX 2080 moet je het doen met een 450W 80Plus Bronze exemplaar. Nu twijfelen we er niet aan dat dit afdoende is - MSI bouwt langer dan vandaag systemen - maar voor toekomstige upgrades (die prima mogelijk zijn) is het wat karig.

Bijzonderheden

Zoals geschreven beschikt de Trident X over rgb-led-verlichting, in de vorm van strips aan de voorzijde en op de koeler. Deze kan aangestuurd worden met MSI's Mystic Light software. Heb je meer MSI apparatuur - bijvoorbeeld muis, toetsenbord en/of monitor - dan kan de verlichting daarmee synchroniseren. Daarnaast levert het Nahimic 3 audio software mee, waarmee je onder andere geluiden visueel kunt weergeven om zo te zien waar tegenstanders zich bevinden. De Command Center software biedt de mogelijkheid om zaken als de koeling te regelen.

Bloatware troffen we niet aan op ons test sample, wat wel zo prettig is - maar omdat deze uitvoering niet 100% overeenkwam met de uitvoeringen die in Nederland op de markt zijn, kunnen we hier niet met 100% zekerheid een uitspraak over doen.

MSI Trident X in het kort

MSI levert met de Trident X een huzarenstukje af: een compact systeem dat toch volledig upgradebaar is (zij het vervangen, niet bijplaatsen), en opvallend stil werkt. De prestaties zijn van topniveau, dankzij dito componenten. Er zijn wel wat schoonheidsfoutjes, zoals een oudere moederbordchipset, een wat magere voeding en vooral ondermaatse wifi - maar niets waardoor we hem niet warm aanbevelen voor wie een compleet en zeer krachtig, compact systeem zoekt om mee te gamen.

Op deze pagina's vergelijken we de geteste systemen puur op prestaties van de hoofdonderdelen processor, videokaart en (primaire) opslag.

Processor

De 9700K van de Trident X is iets sneller dan de 8700K van de Orion 5000, al compenseren de zes virtuele cores van de laatste heel aardig voor het feit dat er twee echte cores minder zijn.

Videokaart

Opmerkelijk is dat hoewel de videokaarten zijn gebaseerd op exact dezelfde gpu, het exemplaar in het MSI-systeem duidelijk wat sneller loopt.

Opslag

De Samsung nvme ssd in de Trident X is aanzienlijk sneller dan het sata Intel-exemplaar in de Orion 5000.

Prestaties: systeem

Hier zie je de algemene prestaties van de systemen op basis van de realworld traces van PCMark8, plus de opstarttijden.

De Orion 5000 start marginaal sneller op, maar de Trident X is nipt sneller in de PCMark tests - met het kleinste verschil in de Home-test.

Prestaties: games

Hier zie je de prestaties in een drietal games, dezelfde die we ook voor onze laptoptests gebruiken. Far Cry 5 is een moderne, op DirectX 11 gebaseerde first person shooter; Grand Theft Auto V is ouder, maar nog altijd populair - we gebruiken een zware benchmark, die ook verschillen in processorprestaties blootlegt; Rise of the Tomb Raider is een DirectX 12 titel.

Deze vergelijking valt in alle gevallen positief uit voor de MSI Trident X; de Acer Predator Orion 5000 blijft over de hele linie iets achter. Zeker in de Far Cry en Tomb Raider zien we in de zwaarste test dat het eerste systeem de 60 fps duidelijk dichter weet te benaderen dan het tweede.

Prestaties: geluidsproductie en stroomverbruik

Hier bekijken we de geluidsproductie (gemeten op 15 cm afstand in een geluidsdichte box) en het stroomverbruik actief en idle.

De MSI Trident X blijkt verrassend genoeg (compacte systemen zijn doorgaans wat luidruchtiger) een stuk stiller dan de grotere Acer Predator Orion 5000.

Evenzeer opmerkelijk is dat onder belasting het Acer systeem duidelijk zuiniger is - wat mogelijk verklaart waarom de prestaties wat achterblijven, het is denkelijk net wat minder agressief geklokt. Wat ons betreft is dat niet de beste afweging, aangezien het hier om gaming systemen gaat. Bovendien is het verbruik in idle duidelijk lager bij MSI, een verschil dat denkelijk ook voortkomt uit het grotere aantal fans van de Acer.

Conclusie

De eerste blik op de moderne gaming systemen van 2019 beginnen we met twee systemen van eind 2018 - zowel Acer als MSI hebben al laten weten dat opvolgers in de maak zijn. Met name voor Acer is een herkansing wenselijk, want de Predator Orion 5000 valt toch enigszins tegen bij deze kennismaking. Over smaak valt niet te twisten, maar er zitten wat te veel fragiele delen aan de kast voor een product in deze prijsklasse, en de configuratie is beduidend minder uitgebreid dan bij de concurrent waarmee we vergelijken. Zowel de processor als de opslag steken wat bleekjes af bij de door MSI geselecteerde onderdelen.

Daar staat tegenover dat Acer de betere keuzes maakt voor netwerkvoorzieningen en een snellere (zij het kleinere) harde schijf inbouwt. Ook de voeding biedt meer potentieel voor toekomstige upgrades.

MSI levert met de Trident X echter een echt modern, krachtig gamingsysteem af - het is wat ons betreft het betere ontwerp, mits je kunt leven met de afwezige mogelijkheid een extra insteekkaart of meer geheugen bij te plaatsen. Stiller, krachtiger en voor een vergelijkbare prijs, zou het een uitgemaakte zaak zijn als je tussen deze twee moet kiezen.

Uiteraard biedt de markt nog veel meer, dus binnenkort hopen we dit artikel te updaten met een blik op systemen van andere spelers in de markt. Voor nu is het MSI dat met de Trident X met een Excellent Choice award naar huis gaat.

It was the first anniversary for Anthony and Kate, Benedict and Sophie and the entire family had gathered for a big party and the annual rematch that Kate had declared that they should do and host at Aubrey Hall and since it coincided with the pair of couples Anniversaries the family had agreed.

The three maternal figures, Violet, Mary and Sarah had all been keen to get back to Aubrey Hall after the start to the season, all of them had someone they were debuting and Edwina, Eloise and Posy had them run ragged.

Kate and Sophie had elected not to attend London at the start of the season, Kate not being able to anyway as she had given birth a few days before all three girls made their debut and Sophie was round with child, despite only being 5 months a long at the time, she was violently ill and Richard and Benedict had begged her to go to Kent early whilst Nicholas was home.

Now the rest of the family had arrived she was feeling better and Kate was feeling better after giving birth to little Neddy 12 weeks earlier and she felt fighting fit…

So the morning of the Pall Mall rematch, she was raring to go and she had an argument with Anthony over breakfast about her being well enough to partake. “Listen. Daphne played pregnant last year! I can bloody well play!” she huffed and looked at Daphne and Sophie.

Sophie scowled “considering I am not allowed to partake” she huffed with a glare towards her husband and her father.

“Soph, you literally stopped throwing up 3 days ago… you’re the one who complained about not being able to see your feet!” Benedict said, looking at his wife with a sigh.

“I am not getting involved in this” Anthony said “but Kate you literally had a baby 10 weeks ago…”

“12 Anthony. 12 weeks!!!!! and your Uncle Nicholas has said I’m fine, the three women you had looked at me have said I am fine… SOMEONE back me up. Please! Mary, Papa?!” she said.

Miles and Mary just exchanged a look “Kate, you can’t ask people to weigh in on your marriage…” Mary said softly.

Kate let out a frustrated groan and stalked out of the breakfast room and Sophie chuckled to herself, knowing exactly what her sister-in-law was doing and chuckled as Anthony carried on eating his breakfast.

Richard looked at his daughter who was watching Anthony and watched as she looked more and more amused with each passing minute “Sophie, why are you nearly laughing at Anthony?” he asked after 10 minutes when he was sure Sophie was nearly shaking with silent laughter and Benedict looked at his wife.

“I am wondering how long it is going to take Anthony to realise he just got played by Kate” Sophie said with a smirk.

Anthony’s head flew up and his eyes wide and he looked startled “What do you mean!?”

Everyone looked at Sophie who bit her toast and deliberately took a long time chewing before saying “where do you think Kate has gone?”

“To see Neddy?” Anthony said a little stupidly.

“No, your mother was with him this morning,” Edmund said, chuckling at his son.

Anthony blinked and looked at his siblings “she wouldn’t…” and then looked at his mother and father-in-law “would she?”

Miles chuckled “you’ve seen how competitive she is… what do you think?”

Anthony took a moment to think, cursed under his breath and ran out of the breakfast room.

“I can’t believe it took him so long to realise” Sophie said with a smile as her husband chuckled at her.

“He is so slow” Benedict said then at the bemused looks from his father and his father-in-law “what?”

Sophie smiled serenely “darling, you cannot judge anyone on being slow…”

“Should we maybe go join them? Before one of them might murder one another…” Simon gestured towards the door after Kate and Anthony.

Edmund and Miles agreed and the rest of the family made their way down and Benedict was escorting Sophie who was not as quick as everyone else and took it as an opportunity to explain his not wanting her to join in again and it being for the safety of their unborn child and she was forced to agree that he was right, she was struggling to move around and she was getting tired just walking so she knew a game of Pall Mall was out of the question.

She let Benedict sit her down next to Sarah, Mary and Violet who was sitting with little Edmund on her lap. Edmund, Miles and Richard were sitting a little way away and they were watching as Kate and Anthony yelled at one another as Kate had the Black Mallet in her hand and was singing and teasing Anthony with it.

Benedict pressed a kiss to his wife’s temple as he walked over to them “Anthony just let her have it… I want to get this game over with today…” he said with a sigh.

“But…”

“Anthony, just give her it” Simon said, as he stood there taking Sophie’s place in the match this year. “She is your wife. Just…”

Anthony growled and Kate let out a gleeful laugh as he caved and agreed and they set off…

Anthony was determined to win and had attempted to sabotage Kate and ended up landing both the pink and the black ball’s in behind some stones as Benedict was ahead, the cheering from Sophie a distraction for the rest of the group but because she was pregnant, and Neddy was sleeping in his Grandmama’s arms, no one dared shouted at her and it was working in Benedict advantage.

“KATE TAKE YOUR BLOODY SHOT” Colin shouted at Kate and Anthony.

“HOLD YOUR HORSES!” Kate yelled back “The Balls are stuck and I don’t want to break anything” she said as she was judging her shot.

“You could just take a drop shot” Anthony said with a grin.

“And admit defeat?” Kate said with disgust on her face “never”

Kate looked around, this was going to be hard she knew this and she had to time her shot perfectly otherwise it was going to cause more issues with the balls flying and she didn’t want any ricochet that could head towards Sophie and her son and she didn’t want that to happen.

She could see Sophie watching them and her father, the earl and Edmund all talking and laughing in the spring sunshine.

“Kate take your shot for god’s sake” Anthony said impatiently and Kate was trying not to take her mallet and whack her husband with it but her shot ended up being a bad one and she missed the black ball, hitting her husband and the rock and there was an almighty crack and the head of Kate’s mallet went flying off and headed towards the group of men and and Anthony let out a roar of disbelief.

Over where the head of the mallet landed Richard let out a bark of laughter and surprise… “it seems the Pall Mall set might finally have succombe to the torture and play of your children” he chuckled at Edmund.

He looked over and saw the head of the mallet and groaned. “This is insane. That set has managed to go through Billie and her boys and the moment Kate gets involved…” he said with a smirk at Miles.

Miles looked over and saw Kate and Anthony practically face to face yelling at one another. “They’re as bad as each other…”

Edmund chuckled as he looked at Antony and Kate yelling at each other “You know… I can’t tell if she’s going to kill Anthony or kiss him”

Miles groaned and turned away “I would rather not watch a reenactment of how we caught them during the hunt- Richard what are doing?” he said, frowning as he watched Richard getting up from his seat.

Richard had turned his attention to his daughter who had gotten up and waddled over to Benedict who had come striding over having been declared the victor and they were sharing a rather passionate kiss forgetting they were in front of their families.

“Richard” Edmund sighed “you do realise they are married and Sophie is pregnant…” he said amused.

Richard grumbled “Doesn’t mean I want to see that” he grumbled sitting back down and turning his head away. Miles had turned away now as well, having seen Kate and Anthony locking lips and then disappearing.

Edmund chuckled as he took a sip of his tea “you know something, I am rather pleased it was Anthony we caught” he said which caused Miles to turn his head and look at the Viscount like he had lost his mind. “What why?”

“Because you Miles, are a lot easier to hold back… if we had caught Benedict with Sophie…” Edmund said with a grin as he sipped his tea and Richard visibly paled at the thought.

“Why would you put that image in my head!” Richard said grumpily.

Edmund laughed “it is the small things in life… but come on, you just wanted to disembowel him for kissing his wife… if you had seen them before they were married…”

Richard nodded his head as Miles laughed “Oh yes, there would have been duels and tears…”

“And that’s just Benedict and Richard” Edmund said with a laugh.

The Pall Mall match had dispersed and Violet, Mary and Sarah had walked over to the group and Edmund took his grandson of his wife with a cheerful coo.

“What was just Richard and Benedict?” Sarah asked

“The tears and dueling if Richard had caught Benedict compromising Sophie…” Edmund said with a grin.

“Oh yes, I must admit I am pleased it was me that went and woke Sophie the morning after their engagement” Sarah said without even thinking and Richard’s eyes widened

“WHY?” he yelled.

Sarah’s eyes went wide and gasped “Nothing. No reason!” she said quickly.

“Sarah!” he bellowed.

Sarah sighed, figuring there was no harm, they were married now with a baby on the way… and out of the way. “I may or may not have walked in and found Benedict in Sophie’s bed” she said.

Richard shot to his feet and yelled Benedict’s name, but he was so far up the hill to the house he didn’t hear.

“Richard! They’re married now for goodness sake!” Sarah said.

Edmund and Violet looked shocked but shook their heads and laughed “I knew there was no ghost!” Violet said with an amused smile at her friend.

“No…”

“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me,” Richard grumbled.

Edmund just laughed “I am glad you didn’t know!” and the party of adults dissolved into laughter “you would have been furious and here wouldn’t have been a wedding”

Richard did have to agree with the statement and when they went to dinner that night, he may or may not have pulled his son in law to one side… as Anthony had left Benedict to send off for a new Pall Mall set having resolved things with Kate in a rather fun and amicable way…

Edmund laughed when he saw Benedict coming in looking pale and Anthony with a happy smirk on his face as he said he’d sent off for a full new Pall Mall set with a red ball included…

It was not the last time they had to order another set but it was always good entertainment.

Top 10 Most Optimized PC Games of 2018

2018 is coming to an end and as you may have guessed, it’s time for our annual “Top 10 Most Optimized PC Games” list. For this list, we tested all the games that were released in 2018 (and for which we had a PC Performance Analysis article). Since some developers have released several patches for some of the games we’ve covered, we are judging their final 2018 versions. So, without further ado, here are the most optimized PC games of 2018 (at least in our opinion).

As we’ve already stated in the past, we judge games based on their PC performance optimization. But what do we consider a PC optimized game? Well… that’s easy to answer. Games that can scale on multiple CPU cores, that are not plagued by ‘console-ish’ side effects (like really low FOV, controller only on-screen indicators and mouse acceleration/smoothing issues), that pack a respectable amount of graphics options to adjust, and that – above all – look and run great on a variety of PC systems are what we consider “properly optimized PC games“. This may differ from what others think when they hear the “most optimized PC games” words but hey… this is our list.

10.) The Crew 2

“The Crew 2 is well optimized for the PC platform. The game does not require a high-end CPU, though it does require a really powerful GPU for higher resolutions than 1080p (unless you are willing to lower your settings). Still, The Crew 2 looks great so I guess – to a degree – it does justify its GPU requirements. There are proper keyboard on-screen indicators and we did not experience any stutters while playing (even when installed on an HDD instead of an SDD). We did notice though some awkward little annoyances (for example, the main menu is assigned to F10 instead of ESC and you can’t use your mouse to ‘catch‘ and move the map). It’s not perfect but it’s one of the ‘smoothest‘ Ubisoft games we’ve played.”

9.) City of Brass

“City of Brass is a game that performs great and looks cool on the PC. The game appears to be scaling on more than four CPU cores, however the performance difference between a quad-core and a six-core is only 10fps. Still, the game runs incredibly well even on dual-cores. We also did not experience any crashes or mouse acceleration/smoothing issues. Overall, this is a polished product that will run on a variety of PC configurations!”

8.) F1 2018

“F1 2018 performs incredibly well on the PC platform. The game does not require a high-end CPU and can be easily considered a GPU-bound title. An NVIDIA GTX980Ti is able to offer a smooth experience at 1080p and an AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 has no trouble at all running the game at both 1080p and 1440p. The game supports wheels, displays proper on-screen keyboard indicators, and we did not encounter any crashes; it’s a pretty solid PC version.”

“The outtake here is that the game runs like a charm on the PC platform. Yes, the game does not look as impressive as other triple-A games, however, this does not mean that it looks awful or average. Still, the fact that it can run so smoothly – even when there are lots of enemies on-screen and on low-end PC systems – is really cool. As such, we’d love to see some real-time ray tracing effects in this particular game as there appears to be a lot of performance headroom (and we’re pretty sure that real-time ray tracing global illumination would significantly improve the game’s visual fidelity, especially at nights).”

6.) Warhammer Vermintide 2

“Warhammer Vermintide 2 looks and performs incredibly well on the PC. This is one of the few titles that takes advantage of more than four CPU threads, looks great, and runs like a charm. We did not experience any stuttering or mouse acceleration/smoothing issues, and there are one hell of graphics settings to tweak.”

5.) Shadow of the Tomb Raider

“Shadow of the Tomb Raider performs great on the PC, though there is still room for improvement. Yes you will need a high-end system, however the game justifies those requirements. Also, it runs way, way better – at launch – than its predecessor. The game comes with lots of settings to tweak and there is an option to completely disable mouse smoothing (it’s enabled by default so make sure to disable it). It’s a well polished product, though it’s not perfect yet. It’s also one of the few games that shows tremendous performance improvements when using DX12.”

4.) FIFA 19

“FIFA 19 is one of the most optimized sports games we’ve seen to date. The game runs incredibly well on a wide range of PC configurations and looks absolutely amazing. Our only gripe is with its graphics settings (too limited and they are not included in the game, meaning that you’ll have to quit it, open its configuration settings tool and then re-launch it in case you want to make any adjustments). Other than that though, FIFA 19 is a top quality product on the PC.”

3.) Forza Horizon 4

“Forza Horizon 4 is not a perfect PC game (and I doubt we’ll see many “perfect” PC games), it’s undoubtedly one of the most optimized PC games of 2018. Right from the start, the game runs with more than 60fps on a wide range of PC configurations, and comes with a lot of graphics settings so you can adjust your experience. As you’d expect, the game supports both wheels and keyboard, and displays proper keyboard on-screen prompts. It’s also the best looking racing game on the PC right now, so that’s another big plus!”

2.) Call of Duty Black Ops 4

“Call of Duty Black Ops 4 works like a charm on the PC. Beenox has done an incredible work and Black Ops 4 runs smoothly on a wide range of PC configurations. The game also comes with a wide range of options, feels great with mouse+keyboard, and we did not experience any crashes. It’s just sad that its visuals are not as groundbreaking as they were in previous Call of Duty games (there was a time when each and every new Call of Duty game offered gorgeous visuals). Still, Black Ops 4 is well optimized on the PC platform and perhaps that’s what counts at the end of the day.”

1.) Battlefield 5

“Battlefield 5 is one of the most optimized PC games of 2018. The game comes with lots of graphics settings to tweak, offers proper on-screen K&M indicators, does not suffer from mouse acceleration/smoothing issues, supports higher refresh rates and resolutions, looks beautiful and runs smoothly on a variety of PC configurations. Although DICE and NVIDIA made some improvements, DX12 is not yet as fast as DX11. Moreover, the RTX effects can bring even NVIDIA’s flagship graphics card to the ground. These effects are really demanding and I’m pretty sure that most RTX owners will disable them so they can run the game in higher resolutions with higher framerates.”
